Parashat Hazinu: Hide and Seek

Parashat Hazinu: Hide and Seek

Sinclair, Rabbi Yaakov Asher
September 17, 2021

When we keep the Torah, we see G-d more clearly in our lives. If we don’t keep it, then G-d becomes more and more difficult to see.

It says in the Torah, ‘I have surely hidden my face’… [The way this is written in Hebrew], the word ‘hide’ is used twice.

There are two kinds of hiding. The hiding where you know that someone is there, you just can’t see them. And the double hiding when you don’t even know that they are there at all… the hiddenness itself is hidden.

When we are aware that G-d is hidden from us, He is not really concealed because we realize that our hiding from His has been reciprocated by Him hiding from us. And so we return to Him, and we try to re-establish our relationship with Him.”
