WELCOMING SHABBAT

Shabbat is more than a day of refraining from worldly activity.

When experienced to its spiritual fullest, its holiness enlightens all other days of the week.

We invite you to enhance your Shabbat with these words of Torah.

PARASHAT SH’LACH: The Land of Israel Is Not Like Any Other Land

PARASHAT SH’LACH: The Land of Israel Is Not Like Any Other Land

Sinclair, Rabbi Yaakov Asher
June 11, 2026

In Parashat Shelach, Yehoshua and Calev describe the Land of Israel as “very, very good,” while immediately warning the people not to rebel against Hashem. Their words reveal that the blessing of the Land is not unconditional: it depends on a life shaped by Torah, faithfulness, and reverence for Hashem.

Eretz Israel is presented as a land of spiritual consequence, able to elevate those who live in accordance with its holiness, but also to reject those who defile it. Human strength, political leadership, alliances, and diplomacy may have their place, yet Israel’s true protection comes only from Hashem.
